The national airline is Garuda Indonesia (GA) (www.garuda-indonesia.com). Other carriers include Thai Airways (www.thaiairways.com), KLM (www.klm.com) and Qatar Airways (www.qatarairways.com). There are no direct flights from Europe or the USA - most transit Dubai, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
Flight times:

From London to Jakarta, is about 16 hours and to Denpasar, Bali is about 18 hours (including approximate stopover time). From New York to Jakarta is around 23 hours, but can be much longer depending on stopover times.

Departure tax:
Rp150,000 from Jakarta and Denpasar for international travel; Rp40,000 for domestic. Rp100,000 from other airports; transit passengers continuing their journey on the same day, and infants under the age of 2 are exempt.

Airport news: 
Extensive improvements and expansion of the terminal facilities are due for completion by mid-2013. A second airport in the north of the island, linked to Denpasar Ngurah Rai Airport by rail connection, is also at the planning stage.

Transfer between terminals: 
The two terminals are within walking distance of each other.
Driving directions: 
From Denpasar, follow the signs for Kuta, from which the airport is clearly signposted.
Public Transport
Public transport road: 
Bus: Buses from the airport are infrequent, so are therefore not a recommended option.
Shuttle: A cheaper alternative to the taxis is a bemo (shared minibus), which can generally be found a short distance from the car park. In addition, many hotels operate courtesy shuttles.
Taxi: Taxis are available outside Arrivals and operate on a pre-paid voucher system. Vouchers are sold at the official taxi desk close to the airport exit. The fare to Kuta is about Rp50,000 and to Denpasar around Rp90,000. Journey times vary considerably depending on traffic.
Terminal facilities
Money: 
There are banks with bureau de change and ATMs within the terminal.
Food: 
A selection of restaurants, bars and cafés can be found dotted around the airport.
Shopping: 
Duty free, designer outlet and gift shops are available in the departures areas.
Other: 
Other facilities include a hotel reservation desk, pharmacy, and spa/massage facilities.
Airport facilities
Conference and business: 
Fax, photocopy, secretarial and internet facilities are available in an executive lounge in the International Terminal. A number of other VIP lounges are located in both terminals. Meeting and conference facilities are offered by several local hotels, including the Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali (tel: (361) 755 577; www.holidayinn.com), which is 10 minutes from the airport.

Disabled facilities: 
Wheelchairs can be supplied on request. The terminals are equipped with ramps and lifts.
Car parking: 
There is a 2,000-capacity single car park adjacent to the terminals, containing both long- and short-term parking spaces.
Car rental: 
Thrifty, Toyota, Hertz and local operators are represented at the airport. Car hire desks for these operators are located in both the International and Domestic Terminals.
Hotels

Flying to France

The national airline is Air France (AF) (www.airfrance.com). Flights to France are cheapest during off-peak periods – namely spring and autumn – while summer and the height of the ski season tend to see higher prices. 
Air notes:
The new Notre-Dame-des-Landes Airport, near Nantes in Brittany, is scheduled to open by 2017. The large-scale project, set to handle an annual capacity of 4 million passengers, is also known as Aéroport du Grand Ouest. In the Dordogne, the new Brive-Vallée de la Dordogne airport opened in mid-2010.
Flight times:
From London to Paris is 1 hour, and from New York is 7 hours.
Air passes:
Various air passes are available which incorporate France. These include the OneWorld Alliance Visit Europe Pass (www.oneworld.com), the Star Alliance Europe AirPass (www.staralliance.com) and the SkyTeam Go Europe Pass (www.skyteam.com).

Paris-Orly Airport,

Airport news: 
A major project is under way to combine the two terminals into a single facility, with a proposed completion date of 2018. Work includes the creation of a new departures area and improvements to access routes and car parking.

From Paris, take the southbound A6 via Porte d'Orléans or Porte de Gentilly and merge onto the A106, which leads to the airport
Public Transport
Public transport rail: 
Rail: The free ADP shuttle provides a frequent link to Pont de Rungis, where RER rapid train service line C runs to St Michel, Invalides and Austerlitz. The Orlyval (tel: 3246; www.ratp.fr) light rail line links Paris-Orly Airport to Antony Station on RER line B, which has Métro connections to Denfert-Rochereau, St Michel and Gare du Nord, as well as connections to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
The journey time to Gare du Nord in central Paris is around 25 minutes, and the combined Orlyval and RER fare is €11.30.
Public transport road: 
Bus: Frequent RATP (tel: 3246; www.ratp.fr) buses 183 run to various destinations in Paris, including the city limits (one-way fare: €1.90).
Tram: As of 2013, passengers can travel between Paris and Orly Airport by tram. T7 runs between the airport and Villejuif-Louis Aragon, which is connected to the subway. Trams run every six minutes during peak hours and the journey takes approximately 35 minutes. Single tickets cost €1.70.    
Shuttle: Numerous bus routes link the airport to city destinations. The Orlybus (tel: 3246; www.ratp.fr) runs to Place Denfert-Rochereau RER and Métro station (journey time: 30 minutes; fare: €7.20).
Coach: Air France Les Cars coaches (tel: 0892 350 820; www.lescarsairfrance.com) stop at the Gare Montparnasse, Place de l'Etoile and Gare des Invalides (journey time: 20 to 30 minutes; fare: €12). A service also runs between Orly and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (journey time: 30 to 45 minutes; fare: €20).
Taxi: There are plenty of taxis connecting Paris-Orly Airport to central Paris and suburban destinations from outside the arrivals area. Fares range from €40 to €50 to the city centre and the journey times vary according to the destination and traffic conditions.
Terminal facilities
Money: 
There is a HSBC Bank branch in Orly West terminal. Both terminals have ATMs. Bureaux de change facilities are located in Orly South terminal.
Communication: 
Wi-FI is available throughout the terminals (free for the first 15 minutes). There are post offices in the public areas of both terminals.
Food: 
There are numerous cafés, snack bars and restaurants at Paris-Orly Airport. These include an American style lounge bar in Orly West terminal, and a mixed cuisine restaurant in Orly South terminal.
Shopping: 
Paris-Orly Airport boasts a variety of shops, ranging from newspaper stands and gift retailers to jewellery shops and fashion boutiques. Duty-free outlets in both terminals sell a range of perfumes, tobacco, confectionary and alcohol.
Luggage: 
Lost and found offices in Orly South (Gate G) and Orly West (Gate I) can deal with missing items.
Other: 
Other facilities at Paris-Orly Airport include medical centres, art galleries and chapels in both terminals. Children's play areas, video gaming facilities and massage chairs are provided at various points in the departure areas.
Airport facilities
Conference and business: 
There is a fully equipped business centre, the Centre Affaires (tel: 01 4975 1740), at Orly South terminal with telephone, photocopying, fax and video facilities as well as meeting space that can accommodate up to 190 delegates. Meeting rooms and are also provided at some nearby hotels, including the Hilton Paris Orly (tel: 01 4512 4512; www3.hilton.com).
Disabled facilities: 
Paris-Orly Airport has a range of facilities for disabled passengers, who are asked to inform their airline of their special needs in advance of arrival. Amongst these services are welcome desks for disabled passengers at Orly West exit W on the first floor, and at Orly South exit E on the ground floor, lowered cash points and public phones, and designated toilets. Disabled parking spaces are located in all airport car parks. The shuttle buses at the airport can accommodate wheelchair users.
Car parking: 
Orly West and Orly South terminals both have short-term car parks directly opposite the terminal buildings, which are directly linked to the terminal either by lift or travelator. Long-term and economy car parks also serve both terminals, and are linked by a free shuttle bus service.
Car rental: 
Car hire companies at Paris-Orly Airport include: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europ car, Firefly, Hertz, Sixt and TT Car Transit. Desks for these operators are located in both terminals.
Hotels
There are two hotels within a short walk of the terminals at Paris-Orly Airport, both of which offer free shuttle services. Several other accommodation options can be found in the near vicinity.
